Stack dates explained: when export containers can enter the terminal

Stack dates explained: the window in which an export container may be delivered to the terminal for its ship. What firm and provisional mean, and where to see today’s stack dates.

Updated Tue 03 Nov.

Stack dates are the window in which an export container may be delivered to the terminal for a particular ship: the stack opens, and the stack closes. Arrive before it opens and the terminal turns you away; arrive after it closes and the container misses the ship.

Firm and provisional

Terminals publish stack dates as provisional while the ship’s arrival is still uncertain, and change them to firm closer to the time. Firm dates can still move with weather, berthing delays or a line’s request, and terminals note this on their lists.

Reefer and dangerous-goods windows

Some terminals publish separate windows for reefers and for hazardous cargo, which can close earlier than the dry stack.

Where to see today’s stack dates

Every terminal publishes its own file. Our stack dates page puts every terminal’s current stacks in one table, updated every 30 minutes, and our stack date alerts tell you when your ship’s dates move.
